YIP seeks to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first or second full-time, tenure-track, or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. Proposals may request up to $170,000 per year for 3 years. Additional funds for capital equipment which enhances the Young Investigator's proposed research may be requested for the first budget period based on the needs of the research.

CAREER: The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Early career is defined as tenure-track (or equivalent) Assistant Professor (or equivalent) with funding available for five years at a minimum of $400,000 to $500,000 depending on Directorate. Application due annually on the fourth Monday of July.

The initial award will be for two years, $200,000 per year ($400,000 total) with the opportunity for up to two additional years of funding (up to four years total for $800,000). Continued support for years three and four will be granted to those awardees who demonstrate significant progress on their proposed research during years one and two of the award. Joint submission from collaborators working in different disciplines will be considered.

Designed to support outstanding scientific research and career development of scientists and engineers at the early stage of their professional careers this program aims to encourage innovative research initiatives and cultivate scientific leadership in Earth system science. Emphasis is placed on the ability to promote and increase the use of space-based remote sensing through the proposed research. The average award is $80,000 to $90,000 per year or a period of up to three years. This program is solicited every two years. No solicitation is available at this time. We anticipate a solicitation in 2023.

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research YIP supports scientists and engineers who have received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in the last five years and show exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research (see solicitation for specifics re: eligibility). The objective of this program is to foster creative basic research in science and engineering; enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators; and increase opportunities for the young investigator to recognize the Air Force mission and related challenges in science and engineering. Each award will be funded at $150,000 per year for 3 years. Exceptional proposals will be considered individually for higher funding levels and longer duration. The YIP is included as part of the Army Research Office Broad Agency Announcement FY17-FY22. The objective of the YIP is to attract to Army research outstanding young university faculty members, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers. The program is open to U.S. citizens, Nationals, and resident aliens holding tenure-track positions at U.S. universities and colleges, who have held their graduate degrees (Ph.D. or equivalent) for fewer than five years at the time of application. Grants eligible for investigators within the first 6 years of an initial independent research career or faculty appointment; eligibility extends to 8 years for clinician scientists who remain active in clinical care. Awards are for up to 4 years at $165K/year (direct costs), plus 20% allowable indirect costs

Representative categories of expenditure include acquisition of data, the purchase of data sets, research assistance (but not including payment to any researchers who will be co-authors on the project), payment to subjects in experiments, miscellaneous expenses (such as xeroxing, telephone, postage). There is a lifetime limit of $7,500.  No funds provided for researchers' time, computer hardware or software, overhead or indirect costs.

The NARSAD Young Investigator Grant provides support for the most promising young scientists conducting neurobiological research. Two-year awards up to $70,000, or $35,000 per year are provided to enable promising investigators to either extend research fellowship training or begin careers as independent research faculty. Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to serious brain and behavior disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders or child and adolescent mental illnesses.

Research grants are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Emphasis is placed on novel collaborations that bring together early career scientists (within 5 years after obtaining independent laboratory) preferably from different disciplines (e.g. from chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering) to focus on problems in the life sciences. A team of 2 investigators will receive $250,000 and a team of 3 will receive $350,000 per year.
